Infrastructure

Center of Excellence in Organic Agriculture initiated by the Institute of Applied Research and Innovation, Bangalore, and Evergreen Biosolutions, Hosur is poised to enhance organic farming as an affordable and promising sector. Traditional farming needs scientific and technological support to escalate the outcome by ways of soil and plant health, harvest, and value addition to the produce. Our CoE is keen to address these issues with innovations based on the existing centuries-old knowledge. The advances in microbiology, biotechnology, biosensors, data analysis, and artificial intelligence are applied in organic farming by simplified methods.

Virupakchi Banana

The Agritech division has established a model organic farm wherein 40 varieties of vegetables including exotics like rosemary, thyme, oregano, asparagus, red cabbage, broccoli, and cherry tomato are cultivated. This farm has the rare banana “Virupakchi” species with GI and vetiver. The farming is performed with enriched biocomposite with root zone concept without any exogenous fertigation. Pest and disease management are also executed with our methods and products developed at the division. While the horticulture division from the government sector provides organic farming training to the farming on this farm, the agriculture university students get training and research projects from this model organic farm. Data on soil and water conditions, plant health, harvest schedule, yield, and post-harvest shelf life of the produce are well documented.

The entire farming activities are documented and the data collected at every time point is utilized for enhancing data-driven farming solutions.

🌱 The department has advanced genomics, proteomics, and electronics and IoT divisions contributing to the development of biosensors, data capture and analysis, and employing artificial intelligence.
